about

Recorded in one week in November, 1996.

Aaron introduced himself to one of our favorite bands' bass player, Nick Barber. What's important is that Nick agreed to produce our ep. We recorded a rehearsal on cassette, with the ideas we had to mail to Nick. The verse on "Slumber" was in the key of C. Louis had a bass riff in D that he snuck into the recording, out of context, hoping that Nick would like it. Nick heard it, liked it and, thus, we transposed the verse on "Slumber" to D, featuring a killer bass part and an odd, transposed guitar lick.

Recording the ep was an education in taste, in songwriting, in arranging, in patience. It made us uncomfortable and downright mad at times. Nick's hand was steady at the helm. He was never rattled, stayed always on point, and replied to every tantrum with "let's run through that again."

This release also features the only original song in our catalog for which Aaron did not write the lyrics. Jason Little, a.k.a. Chase (who is awesome on bass), our friend and former bandmate, contributed music to the first two albums and the lyrics to "Wood and Dirt."

Joel Wild engineered and let us use his killer gear, including a couple of awesome Mesa combo amps.

A debut release that we could, and may always be proud of.
